Abstract
Background
Exclusive breastfeeding aims to meet the nutritional needs of infants for optimal growth and development. Fathers have an important role in motivating nursing mothers. The purpose of this study to determine the relationship of husband support the attitude of the mother in breastfeeding in Community Health Centers Korong Gadang Padang.
Materials and methods
This research is an analytic survey research with cross sectional approach. The population is all mothers of infants aged 0-6 months who are in Community Health Centers Korong Gadang.
Results
There is a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding practices with the support of the father in the exclusive breastfeeding. There is a significant association between father's attitude toward exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0:02 <0.05). Low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding as well as some of the factors that influence fathers require efforts to overcome them.
Conclusions
Husband plays an important role in exclusive breastfeeding. Therefore, the husband should be subjected to breastfeeding counseling and encouraged to more actively seek information and actively learn about breastfeeding, so the more knowledgeable in providing support to mothers to breastfeed exclusively.
