Information system model of community health surveillance in school age children

Abstract


Background

Contact between students in schools has the potential as risk of disease transmission. Schools also strategic institution in student outreach for preventing diseases. The purpose of this research is to analysis information system model of community health surveillance in school age children.

 

Materials and methods

The research was operational research and located in Surabaya, Indonesia. The informants were staff of District Health Office (DHO) and Education Office. The research variables are types of data needed, sources, collection and analysis of data, and epidemiology information. The system model is described using data flow diagrams.

 

Results

Data needed by system were symptoms of disease, immunization status, behavioral, attendance of student and school environment data. The resulted epidemiology information were symptoms of disease distribution, characteristics of sick students, immunization status, description of healthy behaviors and description of school environment. The input entity of this system was schools and output entity were schools, public health center (PHC), DHO and education office. Data analysis was done at PHC then reported to DHO and education office.

 

Conclusions

This system can be used as cohort recording to monitors symptoms of disease as an early detection of infectious disease and potential outbreaks in school students.
