FORMATIVE STUDY OF SCHOOL COMMUNITY READINESS MAPPING FOR 5 HEALTHY AND 8 PERFECT NUTRITION INTERVENTION

Abstract


Background

School based nutrition program has been one of the core strategy to improve school going adolescent nutrition, however intervention strategies should match school community local needs and capacity.

Materials and Methods

Adapted CRM protocol was applied for indepth interviews and self- administered questionnaires with 10 stakeholders in each of 12 junior high schools in Bogor as well as focus group dicussion with students to define school community readiness to adopt school based nutrition program encompassing the 5 healthy 8 perfect message.

 

Result

Respondents were ready to adopt school based nutrition intervention with score highest in attitude followed by self efficacy and leadership with the score of 77,26, 65,84, 65,31 respectively. Availability is key to consumption of nutritious food thus nutrition campaign should involve models of healthy food that are feasible to replicate at home or by the school canteen. Another highlight was the absent of a checklist for nutrion friendly schools, the present of such guidelines percieved as pivotal to measure achievement and maintenance.

 

Conclusion

School based nutrition intervention is feasible, as most of the school communities are ready to adopt the program. However intervention strategies should folow the communities’s need and capacity as highlithed in this study.
