Influence of Motivational Interviewing and Physical Activity on The Quality of Life of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients At Health Center Of Makassar City

Background, Quality of life for diabetics is an important health outcome of lifestyle and pattern of physical activity and also the ultimate goal of all health-related interventions. This study aims to determine the difference in quality of life of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus before and after given motivational interviewing and physical activity gymnastics.

Material and Methods, this research is a quasi experiment with Non Randomized Control Group Pretest Posttest Design. Research sample counted 60 people with type 2 diabetes mellitus selected by exhaustive sampling technique. The data were analyzed using computerized SPSS statistic application with different test of two dependent mean, Wilcoxon test and difference test of two independent mean, Mann Whitney test.

Results, the results showed that there was an influence of intervention given to the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes either on domain 1 (physical health), domain 2 (psychological condition), domain 3 (social relation), and domain 4 (environment), the mean (mean) quality of life before the intervention was 51.97 with the standard deviation of 5.31 increased to 71.47 with a standard deviation of 6.80 after the intervention. Statistically, there were differences in quality of life before and after the respondents were given motivational interviewing and gymnastics, with the p value = 0.001 (p <0.05) which means that motivational interviewing and gymnastics effective in improving the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Conclusion, motivational intervention and physical activities like gymnastic effective to improving quality of life of patient type 2diabetes mellitus.
