Forecasting the Reduction and Generation of City Waste Sourced From Household In Masamba, An Observational With Analytic Cross Sectional Design

Background: Municipal garbage from in the city has increased sharply, it requires management to be done effectively and efficiently. The problem of waste is not only a short-term problem, but it will be a long-term problem, so it needs to be tackled with local government policy, thus handling garbage will be more integrated so as to obtain maximum results. This study aims to forecast the composition of waste and estimate the reduction of garbage in the City of Masamba sourced from Households through a model scenario for 25 years (2018-2043).


Materials and Methods: The type of research is observational analytic with cross-sectional design through dynamic model approach. The population of this research is all households in the waste management service area of ​​Masamba City with a sample size of 99 households taken by proportional random sampling. Data were analyzed using the Stella 5.0 program.


Results: The results showed that household waste generation in Masamba City was 2.07 kg / house / day or 0.0083m3/house/day. Household waste is dominated by organic garbage (80,71%) consisting of wet waste 38,43%, garden garbage 42,28%, while inorganic waste is 19,29% consisting of paper waste 3,19%, plastic waste 7.05%, 0.44% metal waste, 1.02% glass waste, 0.52% garbage, 0.18% rubber waste, and other garbage 6.88%. Through the scenario model for 25 years (2018-2043) with the simulation of composting scenario obtained that in pessimistic conditions, reduction of household waste by 17.69%. Simulation on moderate condition was obtained by household waste reduction of 38,29%, while simulation on optimistic condition, garbage reduction was obtained by 64,20%.


Conclusion: Composting is very effective in reducing household waste that will be disposed to landfill. The increase of household waste generation from time to time, so it is expected that the Local Government or related agencies make control efforts to suppress the increasing rate of waste generation that comes from households in the City of Masamba.
