Since 2014, the Faculty of Public Health, Andalas University has been successfully hosted two national public health conference. To improve these achievements, the Faculty of Public Health, Andalas University will host the first international public health conference in 2017. This conference is in line with the vision of Andalas University as one of the oldest universities in Indonesia and the vision of the Faculty of Public Health, to be one of the global centers of research and education, particularly in public health science. In this conference, the Faculty of Public Health, Andalas University would like to embrace the other public health institutions to contribute together towards human well-being through research, publications, capacity building and advocacy.
Reflecting from the fail of the countries achieving the desired indicators of MDGs, the governments should move to another point of view on solving public health issues despite of several focuses only on providing curative care and protect the people financially towards curative health services. Where are health promotion and disease prevention functions nowadays? Health promotion and disease prevention are important investments to reduce country’s expenditures on curative care especially for new-emerging diseases and NCDs treatment that requires long-term and expensive treatments. Particularly for developing countries where more than half of global prevalence of NCDs occur, effective health promotion and disease prevention safe their health budget and assure the sustainable health financing. Finally, enhancing health promotion and disease prevention measures means the people will leave in healthy manner and healthy environment and will back to such environment once they recover from an illness.
The conference aims to overview the existing health promotion and disease prevention programs and proposing some improvements to accelerate the achievement of health development agenda of SDGs.
The main theme of Andalas International Public Health Conference 2017 is Improving Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Strategies for Health Development Agenda of SDGs.
